The HONG KONG Dragon Boat Festival is an event held the second Sunday on August, and it is one of the most important celebration of the year for the Chinese community in New York. This is an event which is organized around a famous rowing boat competition held on Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park .

It is one of the largest boat festivals of its kind in the United States and somehow commemorating a great tradition of rowing boats competition in China. The tradition developed in Hong Kong indicates that the boats must be constructed as if they were dragons, fantastic animal crucial in Eastern culture. Thus, the waters of Flushing Meadows are filled with dragons that ply the waters looking to take the first prize.
